Linuxmce_admin access in VMware

Hi there,

I have just installed Linuxe MCE using vmware on Win XP. I can't seem to get the VMware network setup
correct so I can access the Linuxmce_admin page.

Can anyone give me some pointers as my VMware skills are very limited.

I have two network adaptors on the virtual machine, Eth1 setup in NAT mode and Eth2 is using host-only.

VMnet8 adaptor is bound to subnet 192.168.138.0/24
VMnet1 is bound to 192.168.6.0/24

From my readings LMCE will not permit access to the admin page from an external subnet.

How can I get this working?

Hia,

LMCE uses another ip zone. I believe 192.168.80.x  and since it is static you cannot acces it.
You can try to set one of the nic's to bridged. This way you will use the dhcp server from LMCE

Hmmm, seems several attempts to follow the wiki instructions on this setup are still failing.

I can't find much docco on the firewall but I assume that the external interface will deny all packets by default so as per the wiki instructions I have setup eth2 in host-only mode, disabled the VMWare DHCP sever on VMnet8 and tried to obtain an IP from LMCE DHCP server on this adapter. Still no good.

Also tried setting a static IP in the same subnet as the LMCE internal ethernet adapter on my host's VMnet8 adaptor. Again no luck.

Can anyone give me their working vm and LMCE network configuration?

have you tried disabling the firewall? i use the external IP on mine, im not using vmware though. I believe the host computer should have bridges in there and act as a router for the vmware stuff thats bridged. so you should be able to reach the external lmce stuff ok.

How does one disable the firewall if the admin website is unreachable? I have searched for info but can only find reference to this via the admin website.

I found a way to diable the firewall by going into the Orbitor advanced view then clicking on the KDE desktop button on the right.
Then I was able to launch the admin website locally on the VMWare guest using the Linux MCE Launch Manager. I logged in then disabled the firewall under network settings and statically assigned an IP on the same subnet as my VMWare host to the external interface.
I then had to shutdown LMCE and change my VMWare eth0 interface to use bridged-mode. Once I started up LMCE again then I could login from my host machines browser using the static IP assigned to the external interface.

hey glad you got it going. sorry ....i wouldve tried to give you more instructions but im at work and didnt want to give you the wrong info on what to click or whatever. looks like you got a better handle on the vmware stuff too.
