The MCE requires two network interfaces.  Can both interfaces be wireless?

Possibly in theory.
But then again LMCE doesn't actually require two physical NICs, it's enough with one and still get almost all the functionality.
Could you please be more precise about what you want to use your installation for, and why you want the wireless.
I have experimented with wireless on mine, bought a new D-link wireless router as well, but I ended up crawling trough glass insulation to get cables to my box instead of using the wireless. (still itches)

So your setting and expectations does have a large impact on the possibilities.

I'd like to try out the Media and PBX functionalities of the MCE.  But if you say it will affect quality and reliability, then I'll do it without wireless.

Here is a rough idea of what I want to achieve:

  Linux MCE
  ######
  #        #  V          Wireless Router    Media Boxes
  #        #--|(1)... & ADSL Modem         ######
  #        #           V   ######  V      V  #        #
  #        #  V       |--#        #--|. . . |--######
  #        #--|(2)...    ######       Wireless
  #        #                | |                Bridge
  ######                | |
    |                        | V
    |                    |ADSL LINE
    V                        |
PSTN LINE                |
                              V
                       ATA+POTS

Everything BUT the media will work over wireless (except DHCP, since the system will have trouble starting over wireless). Video really doesn't wortk well on wireless, there are bandwidth and QOS problems that will make it "strictly experimental" and a great toy but not something you can count on.

So you mean that I will be better off getting long ehternet cables to connect to the media boxes then!  Oops

what you can do is have a core standing by the router, and simply a local install LMCE client with a wireless where you are planning to have the Core now.
But that would mean one extra PC.
And I did plan to try a local install with wireless, but haven't gotten around to it, so I have no idea if it works well.

Hi Faisal

In the early Pluto times I tried the "wireless way". Performances are acceptable if you have 1 MD and you are streaming divx. The main reason because I moved to "wired" solution were not performances, but overall instability of the system. Sometime wireless connection was lost (this happens also today with wireless orbiters) and this was really annoying.
My solution was to put an ethernet cable using the tv cable run pipes, connecting MD and hybrid.

You may also evaluate those nice ethernet-over-power-lines devices. Some of them can give you also over 100 Mbps connection, that is quite good for media streaming purpose.

Hi Marco

I saw one of the 'ethernet over power lines' plugs (by phillips) on the net today.  However, I haven't seen anything above 14Mbps yet.  If I can get one with over 100Mbps, I think that this will be my prefered option.

Hi Faisal

You may have a look at this -> http://devolo.com

Also Netgear sells something similar, and most probably also other vendor do.

I never tested those nice toys (as I told you I managed to get my ethernet backbone in a different way) but I know they are on the market since some years and probably are worth some consideration.

Hi Marco

This is great.  They even have some with B/W up to 200Mbps.  I will try them and post the results here (in the forum).

Thanks again,
Faisal...
