no sound - how to solve this issue?

Hi,

I'm familar with Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) but new to LinuxMCE. I've installed it on a laptop but I don't get any sound of it. How can I solve this issue?

The soundcard is a Multimedia audio controller from Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 (rev 02) - that's what lspci says.

Is LinuxMCE supposed to recognize this card or do I have to take care of my own?

First I would open a console (or ssh in) and run alsamixer. Check that the volume is up and not muted on any output that seems like it should be.
If its not that easy check for alsa support for the particular chipset. You may need to run alsaconfig.

Hi,

I've enabled every option in alsamixer to the maximum, nothing is muted any more - still no sound

alsaconfig is not installed and there is no package for it (apt-cache search alsaconfig)

Where do you suggest to look for support for my chip with alsa?

ive seen a better compatibility list, but i dont have it saved anywhere and cant remember where i found it.

it is strange..

my system shows the modules for chipset are loaded in pluto and in the core ....when i started the system the sound worked
but as soon as i updated the system ... no sound

another problem is that modprobe doesn't seem to work in the core and therefore the new alsa can't be installed.. unless i am doing something wrong

i think it is a bug with the drivers for this card....

I just checked, my laptop has the exact same chip it seems.  It lost audio once after connecting a USB DVB-T device, but since I was using it as a diskless media director I just deleted the media director and set it up again.  Has worked fine ever since as far as I can tell (haven't tried the DVB-T device again though) so it should be supported out-of-the-box I reckon.
