Add me to the "wanna be beta testers".  I also have a PS3, Xbox360..  I doubt those are in development.. I know the PS3 has crippled Video acceleration, and AFAIK, noone has cracked MY version of Xbox... yet...

Ahh, the joys of hacking... er umm Coding....

The PS3 has lately gained some access to the RSX for accelerating X, and SPU drivers for accelerating MPlayer. If these test good under LMCE 0710, the PS3 might just become an excellent MD, especially for HDMI. A PSP hack that delivers an Orbiter could be a really nice (and possibly cheap) tablet. Or what about the Web Orbiter on a PSP?

What I'd also like to investigate is the "RemotePlay" from PS3 to PSP. I'll probably have a PSP in January, to see whether it works with an Ubuntu PS3. RemotePlay could possibly make even a PSP into a media terminal, with everything else processed on an x86 core and PS3 MD, maybe even across the Internet (if the PS3 upload speed is fast enough).

I've been thinking about that too...  would be SUPER cool if it works...  Imagine, a FULL MD on your PSP, remote at that!
Thanks for the heads up on the PS3 RSX info, I'll look into that!
The only intuitive interface is the nipple.  After that it's all learned.
My other computer is your windows box.
I'm out of my mind.  Back in 5 minutes.
Q:  What's Red and smells like blue paint?

A:  Red Paint.

PS3/Ubuntu is GNOME. I wish LMCE didn't have dependencies on KDE. FWIW, I use GNOME Ubuntu on my desktops, too.

Does PSP have touchscreen? As I know it doesn't. It'd be nice to watch video or live TV on it. But as Orbiter iPhone or iTouch is more appropriate candidates IMHO.

No, the PSP doesn't have a touch screen. I agree the new smartphones are great canadites and more of them to need to get supported. I just replaced my Treo 700p, which was completely unsupported, with the new HTC Mogul, a WM6 device (ick, I know). Anyhow, those devices are sort of, kind of, supported. I did manage to get it running... but it had some issues. I was going to track those issues down and perhaps build a proper WM6 orbiter, but then my Core MB died... again... I still haven't got to replacing it yet (long and complicated story).

But, I still think it would be cool to use the PSP as an orbiter.

Maybe it'd be more interesting to add telephony and video functionality to Nokia N800 Orbiter. Since N800 has itself softphone (http://rtcomm.garage.maemo.org) and MythTV client (https://garage.maemo.org/projects/mtv) it might be developed a TV and telecome wrappers for N800. Personally, I don't have experience and time to do that. But somebody (Andrew, for example :)) can handle  that.

I think that would be awesome. I have the n800 and am really looking forward to getting MCE up and running as soon as i move into my new place and using this as a control. Being able to use it as a phone / intercom would be great.

a bit off topic, nite_man. I havent checked for updates in the last few days, but for os2008 would you follow the wiki guide for the previous versions  or has the process changed in terms of steps for install?
Thanks

No, the procedure is exactly the same as for OS2006/OS2007. I'm going to create a simple installator to make setup of the Orbiter easier.

Telecom seems like perhaps a good app. Maybe a speakerphone, maybe some USB telephone handset...

But TV? It's 800x480x16b. NTSC video is 486 visible lines, not 480; PAL/SECAM have 576. And 800cols/16b is barely adequate for simulating an analog line (usually 720cols/24b). Though maybe a 4.1" screen will hide the defects. Can it do 30fps like NTSC?

There's no peripheral the N800 supports that can output actual video (S-Video, SVGA, etc) to a real TV, is there?

I'm afraid, no. It can just a display video from the MMC card or works as a client for MythTV.

I agree wrapping TV/Media streaming and telecom onto the N800 would be a great idea ;-)
