my future media home?

1                       ok i have planned to use lmce as the os of my future media centre, and understand most things put have had an idea of how to use the mac mini I have upstairs by using it as a client computer, is this possible?
I don't know The specks of the pc I plan to put downstairs but this would be the only pc with lmce on.
2                       I also wanted to know if I could share the content on my windows pcs with the oher two?

I know nithing about linux or much else so please be as clear as you can

Not to sound mean, but if you know nothing about linux then this is NOT the software for you.  Even if you do know linux, I'd still say this is not the software for you.  Please see all the other comments about how much a nightmare this software is.

I can tell you that currently the windows share issue has been given people problems, but it is possible.  LMCE is much more than a media center which will give you the possibility of adding additional features as your needs grow.  If you are going to build a box from scratch then you will be able to pick the items that you will know will work. 

I do not know about the mini mac, but you may be able to network boot.  Someone with a mini mac will probably chime in on this.  by far the easiest install method is the DVD option.  Just search the working hardware and you should be fine.

What I also wanted to know is sether if I install linux mce on both machines, will they still share things?
I was under the impression they didn't.
if they did could i install onto an external hard drive and tell the mac to always boot off that?

I have been reading around and found this:

N : Netboot (New World ROM machines only) - Looks for BOOTP or TFTP Server on the network to boot from.

Do you know if there will be a bootp or tftp server on my network?
if so then this should be what I'm looking for right?

First of all it should support PXE to boot from the tftp server.

So that should mean I can Use a tiny mac mini as a media detector

guys i don't know jack she-hit about linux.and my  linuxmce box is running fine the hardest thing was trying to download it. Man the mirrors are as much fun as sucking dog shit threw a straw. They are slow as hell, and are up and down like a a bunch of yo yo's. The linuxmce runs fine. all tho the Kubuntu is`another story it is sluggish. the only problem i had was with my display driver coz i have a ATI 9600xt in the box and linuxmce did not run with a versa driver a bit of research on the Ubuntu forums and boom all is good. linux mce is not seamless but is totally usable.
just give it a go man.

Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preboot_Execution_Environment.  You might be able to find a way to create a bootable CD that will do PXE for you.

I know it can be done with PCs.
