Connecting over internet??

Hi there! This is perhaps a really stoopid Q, but i really need to know!

Is it possible to connect a front end of LinuxMCE from say, my girlfriends place, to the main unit (Core?) in my home? And then watch TV, listen to music, videos stored and so on. You know, the full package!?!

I guess it have to transcode or something due to bandwidth restrictions? It doesn't have to be HD quality as long as it is viewable on a 32"...

If not, any solutions?

The bandwidth would almost certainly be too restricted. You might be able to play audio and that would be about it.
Unless you happen to have a 50-100mb internet connection.

if you could find a way to code it down to a really crappy resolution you could do it. Itd work just like slingbox. You wouldnt be able to do anything else on the network as far as internet traffic and you would be most definitely need broadband. Id suggest cable with as much UP as you can get from the serving side. I think the easiest way to do it would be to use a point to point VPN. You could try port forwarding or something and NAT but itd end up being a ton of work. Youd need some pretty good hardware to transcode it on the fly depending on what it is. like fibres said...audio might be easy...video would be harder....both will be like crap....but people seem to be buying the slingbox. maybe you should check that out.
