Basically.  Im looking to see exactly what hardware (pc) and extras People out there are using in their LINUX MCE systems and how much it cost (best guesstimate).  I'm looking for the least configurating in a system as possible but should be able to run all the features (graphical) withouth hiccups.  Plug and Play to the max.

This is for the home theater setup.  Storing of movies, PVR , the good stuff... I've seen the lists of hardware, but no real full hassle free systems.  Im sure it would help a lot of people to see current working setups.

Does this allow for playing full hd 1080p without dropped frames?

If I remember correctly, no computer can support full 1080p at this time due to no video cards having HDMI. Of course, yes, you can set your resolution to 1920x1080 (1080p), and use a DVI-to-HDMI adapter, but you'll only be putting out 1080i I believe.

Just run 1080i with the LinuxMCE built-in de-interlacing feature. :)

actually, I think DVI is a higher-bandwidth connection than HDMI. The only advantage to HDMI is that it carries sound and that nasty DRM stuff.

LOL...no....HDMI is much higher than DVI. HDMI 1.3 carries 10.2 Gbps. Thats exactly why it carries sound and video.

hmmm, you're correct, my bad...

FYI, here's what I've got under the hood

Silverstone HTPC case - unable to get LCD working =/
Asus DVD Super Multi
A8n-SLI Deluxe mobo
Seagate barracuda 160gb sata hd
3.5 super-multi flash card reader
Gigabyte GeForce 7300 GS card
1gb ram
AMD 3000+ 64 bit proc
pcHDTV 5500 tuner

the pcHDTV has a documented bug, but it's easy to fix... just google pcHDTV feisty
Although the support is a little lacking for them they are technically superior to every other card I investigated at the time I made my purchase.

The only problem I had was the network manager hung the install. The Nvidia works great, I know lots of people have had ATI problems.
