camera and linuxmce for access control and security!
« on: May 22, 2007, 04:46:38 pm »
Hy every body,

I plan to install linuxmce for security purpose and need some help from the masters of linuxmce.

1/ I need to install camera
a/ outside of the house (with motion detection) for security
b/ one for the intercom
c/ and inside (with the possibility of moving the camera)

Solution:

1-a/ and b/ I found xcam camera (http://www.intellihome.be/francais/store.asp?pag=newsletter&nr=114) but don't know how linuxmce deal with.
I though also about an ip camera (wifi) but don't know exactly which one are recognise (cheapest one). On pluto website there is compatibility list (Panasonic IP Cameras,Dlink IP Camera,Axis IP Camera) but it is very expensive camera !! Are these one compatible: trendnet camera ip wifi tv ip100w, DCS-950G... which are very cheap !!

2/ I'd like to make a control access for peaople who want to enter in my house based on a camera, and an switch. When people press the button, the camera of the celling appears then I can speak with the person and press on the touch screen to open if I agree. My question is how to make it possible to b e hear by the visitor?? Do I need to wire HP cables... My aim is to use the electriq line only and not using any more cable, is it possible???

Thank's for your help!

Any IP camera with java will be compatible with linux, and I am guessing with linuxmce too. Just stay away with the ones that only have active X. They wont work.

For the two cameras you ask, I've never used the trendnet but my experience with ip cameras is that you get what you pay for. The image and color quality depens a lot on what you pay. There is an Axis indor camera for 200 euros that is quite good, if you want to go cheap.

Hy, and thans helping.
I don't really mather with quality !!!!

I think you are wright with the java applet, I guess it control it with java. The trend camera (Trendnet TV-IP 100) is compatible with java and other (here is the code http://www.touslesreseaux.com/test-dossier/Test-de-la-camera-IP-Sitecom-WL-400.html). I don't know if I will use it or another one (is xcam -  compatible - i think it's working with x10 but is it hard to make it control by linuxmce).

Myu big problem is about the intercom. To replace it, I was thinking about:
- x10 technologie (switch MS13 + rf receptor + cm11 interface). People come, press button, then x10 info is send to the linuxmce computer. A screen open with the trendnet tv-ip201W camera which have a microphone. So it 's possible to see the visitor and to listen. Then if ok, I send a x10 command to the door to open (electrical open). However, how to interract with the visitor ??? How to speak with him, is it possible with linuxmce, or to hard !!!! I was thinking about some message already recorded close to the entrance in a leatle player, and button on screen to send playback order to the intercom (for exemple yes, no, you can enter...).

Any help will be appreciate.
 Thanks

interesting idea. for the linuxmce part it should not be so difficult, only to implement a software for network conferencing. the other part, for intercom device for the visitor could be a little difficult.
Read the F****** Logs!!!

Hi,

another way (I'm thinking of) is to have doorphone that is FXS compatible (like normal analog phone) and then have ATA or Sipura VOIP adapter, so doorphone makes proper call to Asterisk PBX in LMCE. Quite some time ago I proposed such setup on Pluto forums but it went by....

You normally get "Incoming call screen" on all Pluto Orbiters on call from doorphone, the only addition that should be made is to make incoming call screen that would also show snapshots from related camera and there you go... Talk over plain phone and see it over camera...

HTH,

regards,
Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Good solution. I'm waiting for delivering of three analog doorphones from USA. So, probably I'll start implement this under Pluto next week.

thanks for your reply,

Your idea is great, I didn't though about it. I'd like to hear your project in detail, and why not a process !!!
Another solution could be to put an IP phone in front !!!

And/or to put a standard RF intercom for audio only (and wifi camera for video) and to make an analog acquisition like analog phone on asterix, is it what you was talking about ???
these one for example

After what, we need to add a switch in the call view, if the caller is intercom.  The view would be from the door ip camera !!!
I think the addition between SIP IP phone + camera.. should be great. Ohhh, I forgot, the aim is not to have to put more wire. I just want to use cpl, wifi, and power supply !!!

Thanks for feedback or advice.

Hehe, It's amazing how lazy we are all getting...

I put a Pan/Tilt IP camera on my front door, it's also got a mic..  works well..

some of the ActiveX cameras will also support cgi.. Mine is from Gadspot, IP9604, it's touted as an ActiveX camera, but a bit of digging I found you can control it via http requests..

It works well with my 3 other IP cameras.. GS1600H also from Gadspot...

just my thoughts...

hy,

you're wright, however you only can hear people, you can't reply !!!! I was thinking of this solution, however, I needed to install some pre-recorded messages, in electrical-board, then control messages with X10 (like for the water control),  for example with some buton on the screen !!

However, your camera is expensive and I think a VOIP-intercom would be greater (but expensive too). I was thinking about a SIP voip cell phone, then sold wired for header and mic (the phone would be hidden).

The SVN for MythTv includes a plugin MythZoneminder for use with the popular Zoneminder security software.  It also include a telnet interface that allows you to switch the display to a particular interface.

Once they release .21 which will include this plugin, and LinuxMCE moves to this version, it would be relatively easy to have LinuxMCE respond to an X10 or EIB door bell by starting MythTv on your Media Directors and switch to the Video.

Wouldn't give you 2 way audio, but would be a cheap easy way to get what you and I are looking for.

yes but if zone minder and mythtv become compatible, what will be the interrest in linuxmce ??

For our project, I found these products:
http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detail.jsp?tab=features&pathtype=purchase&sku=3C10399A

another solution could be:
a reel cheap phone and behind, a WDS wifi router with analog IP line input ! Have to look on it !!! So

Something like this could be cool also:

And this one the best with a pwl support

But I certainly will do this:
- normal RJ11 phone
- adaptator RJ11/VOIP Ethernet RJ45 + PWL ethernet adapator
OR
- adaptator RJ11 VOIP WIFI
