Installing LinuxMCE 1.1

Hallo,

I have installed Kubuntu okee.
And i have the 2 linuxmce CD's but i do not understand what i need to do now,
What do i do to install it?
I'm not a Linux user more a Windows(tm) user. And i expect that i insert a CD and the installation starts.
When not i need to find a Readme file that tells me what i need to do.
I missing both of them,

Can some one help?

if you stick the disc in the drive, open (or mount) the drive, (you;ll get a CDROM icon on your screen)
right click the mce-installer_2.0.1-1_i386.deb file and select Kubuntu Package Menu, and Install Package.

That will put an icon on your screen.  Click that icon to start the installation.

Can I install 1.1 over top of 1.0?  It sounds like 1.1 has a new installer, it uses Kubuntu, can run in a window, etc.  Am I better off completely removing 1.0 before I install or does the new installer take care of it?

I don't see any mention of this anywhere.  I know it's beta, but most of us probably already have a previous installation on their box.

That's because your running Ubuntu 6.10, not KUBUNTU 7.04 - best to reinstall OS

Download the KUBUNTU FIESTY DVD

Just did a backup via the Admin web panel to prep for the 1.1 install and looking inside the .tgz file there is no backup of the mythconverg tables, and I don't think Asterisk's tables are in there either.

Might be a good idea to take a backup of the entire database if your going to wipe the system. ;)

mysqldump --all-databases | gzip > /home/public/backup.sql.gz

After I installed Kubuntu I did an upgrade, and I'm pretty sure I remember samba being part of the updated packages.

I got the same error as you Eirik. It seems my sources.list was garbled up and right now I'm trying to install the packages manually. Right now pluto-decrouter is being installed, but I had to do it manually after cleaning up the sources.list.

The problem goes like this:

Cache cd contains samba 3.0.24-2ubuntu1  which depends on samba-common 3.0.24-2ubuntu1 . Since kubuntu updated the samba-common package to 3.0.24-2ubuntu1.1 , the package samba 3.0.24-2ubuntu1 from the cache cd won't install because is not the same version with samba-common.

When using the cache cd on install time, the system will try to install all the packages offline mode.

The quickest solution to get linuxmce 1.1 beta installed is to skip the use of the cache cd or to have latest samba package installed before starting the installation.

Do not use an XFS file system on your root partition. The MCE installer changes the fstab and adds a bunch of unsupported switches which after reboot will make your XFS system read-only and it's a pain getting it to work again ...

During the install the network interfaces are being brought down, but come back up with no IPs. This happened using both Automatic and Manual for the network settings.

That happened to me too. At least now MCE has told me the installation is completed so we shall see what will happen next.

After my first reboot, I've got a black screen on F7, with the last message on F8 says "Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local) [ OK]"

The only thing taking up cpu time is a Start_NewMD_interactor.sh script.

Attaching to the script with strace shows it's trying to bind to a port in use, ps shows two instances of this process running:

Xorg.0.log and Xorg.1.log aren't getting any new data, Xorg.3.log does and I do see the first X session with the progress bar.

My video card is an Nvidia 6200TC

After a bit more fiddling, if i edit /etc/X11/xorg.pluto.conf and comment out

Load    "int10"

The display then loads correctly :-)

I got the same issue, also a nvidea card (don't exactly know what type) with the nvidea drivers installed (as LinuxMCE suggested).
Anyone reported this problem already through the troubles form (http://linuxmce.com/troubles.php)?
