Which TV Card?
« on: May 07, 2007, 01:37:17 pm »
Hi Im loving using LinuxMCE its great.

I would like to know now which TV card to get, I would like one that receives DVB-T (UK Freeview i think). Im looking at the Hauppage Series as they seem pretty well supported. Any ideas?

I have a usb freecom one lying around but im not sure if this would work I cant see any success anywhere.

I would like to know if i will need to re-format the computer and re-install everything to get it working or can it be added after. Im hoping so but im not sure how to go about it on my system which I have been using for a couple of weeks and loving.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I haven't installed Linux MCE yet as I'm waiting for 1.1 release.  I just want to check my video cards look okay though.  I have 2 WinTV-NOVA-T DVB-T 90003 LF (Rev C2B0).  I am happy to got out and get better ones if I need to, once I have played around with a working system.  Here is some info:

dmesg:

I just tried tvtime.  It didn't work.  I think it recognises the card but it isn't working properly.  Surely Ubuntu has the latest driver?  Is there a beginner’s guide to updating drivers anywhere?

Is it one of these that tells me the drivers are loaded:

cx8802                 19332  0
cx8800                 35212  0
cx88xx                 67364  2 cx8802,cx8800

Because the Conexant chips have the following codes on:

DVB-T chip CX22702-25
Broadcast Decoder chip CX23882-39

In tvtime I selected Europe, then I unistalled and asked it to scan but neither made a difference.  The screen was black the whole time and it just showed DVB, but no channel number in the top right corner.  (Should it say DVB-T?)

I'll try kdetv as well.

We're using the Happauge T500 twin DVB-T tuner cards here in the UK... they work very nicely.

I am successfully using the Hauppage 500MCE dual tuner card with no problems, I am also using a firewire card hooked up to my Motorola HDTV receiver for high def recordings.

The exact cards I am using are WinTV-NOVA-T-DVB-T 90003 LF (Rev C2B0)

If the dual 500 works I might invest in one of these, but it would be nice to see it working with these Nova-T's

Interested to hear about your setup DrACoNus - is that in the UK?  What High Def source are you using?

I own a wintv-nova-t-500 (the european dual turner) and there is a problem in the kernel with its drivers, that makes the kernel ops, and it might crash the system or it might make you quit the video aplication you are using. So right now and before a update is released is a no-way. Its a shame because its a good card, but not even the newest kernel solve this. Well have to wait a bit to use this card.
