1404 is now considered our primarly development version
« on: January 17, 2016, 02:57:38 am »
Hey everyone,

We are slowly deprecating 1204.  Going forward primary development will continue on LinuxMCE 1404.  Happy LMCE'ing!

And to add to it: If everything works according to plan, 1404 will be the shortest primary target, with 1604 available in 3 month time.

Sounds good!
Will there be an "update" function to migrate to a newer version?

To update an fully configured running version to a blank new one would be very time consuming (at least for me)...

If someone wishes to take on the task of creating an upgrade script or creating a wiki describing an upgrade process then that would be great.  I don't think the few of us working away on the system have the time to take that on.  It has been done and can be done.

Please be aware that we will not be 'turning off' 1204 in any way.  We will likely stop pushing updates for it and stop building new install DVDs for it.

At the moment there is no one that has the energy, will or need to create  such a script. Some people, including myself, have been happy with apt-get dist-upgrading since before 0810. Never easy, never for the faint of heart.

Sambuca recently went through an upgrade from 1204 to 1404 and noted a couple of things in a wiki entry about it. http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Upgrade_1204_to_1404
