LMCE-1404 20150308181930157 reboot loop
« on: March 24, 2015, 10:36:16 pm »
Hi.

I downloaded and installed this snap.

It loads and after restart provides the Ubuntu GRUB select screen.

After selecting Ubuntu it runs (for a bit), but then loops back to Ubuntu GRUB select screen.

Cheers

How many times does it loop?  A reboot (or two depending on hardware) is fully expected.

Hi,

Just got back from work and tried again.

Doesn't matter from the GNU GRUB version 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1 menu screen if I select *Ubuntu or Advanced options for Ubuntu.

The "fancy" Kubuntu splash appears, not the LMCE Kubuntu 14.04 splash, and the system cold reboots (BIOS splash) and loads the GNU GRUB screen again.

MD5sum's checked out on the iso's.  Something seems borked.

If you'd like me to try anything, please advise.

Regards.

heh.  phenigma sticks his foot in his mouth and mumbles...:

Try to figure out what the problem is?!?    8)

Anything you can do to try and figure out the issue.  First thing is to press ESC to kill the splash.  Which probably shouldn't be there to begin with.  hmm.  I'll try to find a moment to check the dvd creation log.

Need to have a talk with posde about over use of "|| :" and how it prevents us from finding problems.   ;)  (inside speak to posde... ;) )

Hi,

If it helps at all...

Hitting <ESC> at "fancy" Ubuntu splash show our startup processes.

So the startup launches a bunch of processes and loads the Nvidia driver.

Then you'll get the please stand by while your system is rebooted message.

Then it attemps to stop   - Restart_Myth_Backend /usr/pluto/bin/Restart_Myth_Backend.sh
         - LinuxMCE linuxmce
         - discovery /usr/pluto/bin/discovery.py
         - Orbiter /usr/pluto/bin/Spawn_Device.sh
         - LMCE launch Manager /user/pluto/bin/LaunchManagerDaemon.sh
         - DCERouter /usr/pluto/bin/Spawn_DCERouter.sh
         - XWindowsSystem /usr/pluto/bin/Start_X_Wrapper.sh
         - Gamepad Radar /usr/pluto/bin/Gamepad_Detect.sh
         - NFS Radar /usr/pluto/bin/StorageDevices_NFSRadar.sh
         - Samba Radar /usr/pluto/bin/StorageDevices_SambaRadar.sh
         - Storage Status Radar /usr/pluto/bin/StoageDevices_StatusRadar.sh
         - Voicemail Monitor /usr/pluto/bin/VoiceMailMonitor.sh
         - PNP MD Plugin (interactor) /usr/pluto/bin/Start_NewMD_interactor.sh

who [fail]

         - Dhcpd Plugin /usr/pluto/bin/Dhcpd-Plugin.sh

who [OK]

We go though BIOS restart and then back to GNU GRUB screen to groundhog day all over again.

The fails on stopping are simply informative.  The issue is why it's triggering the reboot each time.  Something must not be completing in the initial setup.

Hi

On initial startup - [fail]

 * Starting SMB/CIFS File and Active Directory Server

All other processes [OK].

The Nvidia driver installation begins and ends and the requires a reboot.

(With the results from previous post).

Cheers.

So is it trying to install your nvidia driver on each boot?  After the initial boot it should have the drivers installed and then not try to install them again.  It sounds to me like that is likely.  Can you confirm this?

Phenigma,

14.04 is using Samba 4.1, vs the Samba 3 in 12.04. There was/is a bug in the Ubuntu issue tracker for nmbd starting before smbd, so that could be an issue.  There's also two new init scripts in /etc/init.d (samba and samba-ad-dc) which may play into this.  It could also be that the current LMCE managed smb.conf file is not compatible with Samba 4.1.

I haven't looked into this specifically, but I am starting to look at Samba AD support in 14.04 (playing with Zentyal 4 right now).

Just thought I'd point that out as a possibility.  HTH!
