Distorted picture on ATI Radeon Xpress X1250 - lmce 1004
« on: September 09, 2012, 05:21:30 am »
One of my MDs is a Dell Latitude XT connected to TV via VGA port. Picture is distorted and flickering. I've lerned that its caused by kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/573290 so I tried instaling 2.6.34 kernel for ubuntu 10.04. It have fixed the problem but now lirc won't install

I use this chipset family on one of my MDs. Works great.

Upgrading your kernel is typically a very very bad idea.
Please give me the output of lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A3

Code: [Select]
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series] [1002:791e]
        Kernel driver in use: radeon
        Kernel modules: radeon

is mine. Now... the Xpress series had support dropped for it a long time ago by ATI... so the radeon is the best we are going to be able to do. Going to want to run ui2 no alpha and turn off photo screen saver for best performance... but I will look into a workaround for your specific problem once you get me that info. I would, frankly, not expect to see this problem. That bug relates to multiple monitors, which is unsupported in LMCE.

Here is the output
Code: [Select]
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 [1002:7942]
        Kernel driver in use: radeon
        Kernel modules: radeon
09:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5756ME Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express [14e4:1674]

One other MD with the same type of motherboard is using its own(Dell latitude XT) LCD screen and this one works great.

I've just updated everything and after deleting MD from Core and setting it up again, the video is working. Previously both VGA1 and VGA2 displayed distorted picture on the TV, now thru VGA1 i get undistorted picture on the TV and trhu VGA2 distorted. Thanks.
