1004 beta 1 hdmi audio issues
« on: August 26, 2012, 12:51:56 pm »
I am not sure what happened, I was able to hear the test sounds when choosing hdmi for audio, was able to hear the first past through but not the second. I was also able to hear sarah for setting up Media Player; this is an MD. Now I have finished, I am not getting any sound for videos, dvd or audio; all channels unmutted

This is my aplay -l

root@moon43:~# aplay -l

card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Also

aplay -l | grep -i 'hdmi'
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]

If I do the following test, I am hearing

root@moon43:~# speaker-test -c 2 -l 1 -t sine -D hw:0,3

speaker-test 1.0.22

Playback device is hw:0,3
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Sine wave rate is 440.0000Hz
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 64 to 1048576
Period size range from 32 to 524288
Using max buffer size 1048576

Fix one thing, break another.

I will look into it. I have one so it shouldn't take too terribly long.
I never quit... I just ping out.

Ok thanks

Did not want to go the route as in 810, manually upgrading nvidia and alsa as I knew it suppose to work

guys,

I was working on getting AC3 audio via HDMI on LMCE 1004 today...   after much searching the last two mornings, I found this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1608804   Something about a52 not set up causing the problem.
My board is an MSI 870A-G46 with the Realtek ALC-892 chip.   I was only getting PCM (stereo) from my Media Director into my Denon receiver via HDMI (and also thru SPDIF).   I havent tried HD audio yet... but will be firing up a movie later today.

I can do:  speaker-test -Da52:0 -c6 and all speakers check properly. Unfortunately I have to figure out how to get the Media Director to know about it.

Good luck,

Dennis

Yeah... like I said... I have an acer revo 16xx ion1 and all of my stuff looks exactly like yours... and I am fully upgraded... however it was setup under the old scheme. We have made a lot of changes trying to get all of the ion2/GTxxx series to work automatically with hdmi audio. If yours no longer does, then it is likely we broke it. I have been gone all day. Will be gone most of tomorrow. Will figure it out tomorrow afternoon or Tuesday.
I never quit... I just ping out.

at a terminal, the following command will play on all speakers:
                    speaker-test -c 8 -r 48000 -D hw:1,7    *** this works for 7.1 channels

While running AVWizard, I get a screen (#5) to select which audio controller to use... then select HDMI... but i get no sound at all during the test.

Can someone tell me what I am 'missing' (besides a few screws!!!)

Thanks,
Dennis

Okay I got sound for all my files by disabling ACS/DTS pass-through.

The first test worked in avwizard, while the second did not, maybe its my tv

Thanks all
