I just logged in to dcerouter and found this:
new releaase "precise" available
run "do-release-upgrade" to upgrade to it
Is this a "Do" or a "Don'T"??

Marie.O

I would file it under the "Don't" category.
If I helped you, feel free to buy me a coffee: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=2VKASZLTJH7ES

l3mce

I would file it under the "I know this isn't going to work, and don't care that it is going to break almost everything in my system because I have downloaded clonezilla and cloned my working setup and just want to see what if anything does work so I can tell L3mce" category.
I never quit... I just ping out.

JaseP

Actually, I would suggest you file it in the, "Let me install this in a Virtual Machine, clone it, run it, see if it breaks anything and then..." all the rest of the stuff that L3ME said...

... It might be slightly less damaging to your time and sanity...
See my User page on the LinuxMCE Wiki for a description of my system configuration (click the little globe under my profile pic).

I guess posde summoned it up already pretty nicely :-)

Bah, risk it, and tell me how you go :-)

I've just tested it on a clean disk:

  • Installation of a fresh LinuxMCE (LMCE-1004-20121030125826619)
Everything is working fine (user setup in LinuxMCE, network, internet browsing...)
  • run a 'do-release-upgrade'
  • No more LAN more?
I can ping from the server to a client. But from a client, i can't reach the server?
Everything is listing locally (TCP 80, 53....)
Probably a kind of firewall kicked in (but no iptables, no ufw...?)
  • I've installed gnome (apt-get install gdm)
  • And when i try to login locally to linuxmce, he tells me that there are no users?
But i'm 200% sure that i created a user in Linuxmce before.
so the do-release-upgrade did also something to the database?

Back to an original installation, without the do-release-upgrade...  :-X
