Core clarification (can LinuxMCE exist with only one box?)
« on: March 25, 2007, 04:37:59 pm »
Am I correct when I think that in order for LinuxMCE to work I will need at least 2 machines?  I would love to try this to replace my Windows based media box, but it is the only box in my house for media.  I store, manage, and serve off of that one box to only one TV.  I don't need any more than that and don't want (or need) to have another PC running in my tiny condo.  Can someone tell me if there is a way to set up and use this on one box?  I currently have 300 movies and about 2,000 CDs backed up on my windows box, and am afraid to try this until I get some clarification.

No.

You can have the core (server) and the front end in the same computer. You dont need two computers.

I think you can Install ubuntu 6.10 on a partition of your hdd and this way you can keep your media too, or you could add another hard drive and Linux MCE will auto-detect your hdd with media.
