Hi,

this device called MK802 Android4 MiniPC is able to play FullHD - Videos via HDMI.
I am thinking to use it as a Mediadirector in my sleeping-room.
Any ideas if this could be a recommended solution?

This could be used, with a few bits of important software ported over. Want to take it on? :)

Hello Thom,

the MK802 with 1GB RAM can be installed with Ubuntu or any other Linux-based OS.
You can find a related article with movie on the following website:

As I said before, it will need to be ported, as this is an ARM based machine. Nobody has taken on the task to port the media director parts to ARM.

Would you be willing to do so?

Unfortunately software-development is not part of my skill. Anyone else interested in this great piece of hardware who could do this job ?

I would love to, but my plate is incredibly full as I am one of the core developers.

Where may one get one of these devices?

Try these links:

Since we are discussing Allwinner A10 systems...here are a couple devices based on the same SoC that would make nice MDs, as well.

As far as I can tell, though, all of these systems are not ready for true MD use due to VPU/GPU linux driver issues.  A lot of work needs to be done in that area (by the community at large) before it could be usable for us as an ubuntu based MD.

An all-android based solution (something like qOrbiter/qMediaPlayer) would probably provide the best performance.

Am I missing something here?

None of these things has an rj45.

How the hell do we plan to navigate a dvd menu/play everything over wifi. I mean... if my full fledged MDs cannot roll wireless... how does them being android make them magic?

Yes... I am clearly missing things. The latter two have rj45. Sorry.
I never quit... I just ping out.

Hi guys,
there is an ubuntu porting for rk3188 soc.
Search Picuntu on google...maybe this could help someone with software/development skills to compile a fully working linuxmce distro.
These mini PCs could be used as media director because they are very small!

Cool. Want to port it over? Talk to phenigma. :)
