Retrying LinuxMCE

Hi I tried LinuxMCE a while ago and really liked the idea of the project, however I think it was too early for me with my limited knowledge of Linux and how it work regarding hardware.

I am thinking of testing the water again as I really love the feature set of LinuxMCE. I am willing to splash a bit of cash to get some hardware more easy to use as my last setup was slightly under powered.

Would something like this be worth looking at as I really like it's looks:

Coupled with say a AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Dual Core CPU which retail at about £30 and some memory etc...

Just wondered if that would be ok. I just saw that it is a Geforce 6150 which is quite dated but I seem to remember it was quite well supported.

there were original issues with this system and linux as reported in some of the Newegg reviews:

"Hipergroup has no support for linux and will not even give me enough info to write my own drivers for the VFD. They basically said tuff luck and we have no plans on releasing linux drivers. All I asked for was info on the VFD interface so I could write one."

These may have been fixed but if there are manual things you need to do you should ask yourself can you do them?

For a core it is missing a second NIC

Ahh thanks for that. I wasn't thinking about the second NIC totally forgot. I guess the riser card could be added but then again it is quite limited.

Any ideas what would make a decent basic core? Are there any retails still selling LinuxMce Systems. I remember the Fiire systems but I think they went under.

If you are looking for minimum pain and are prepared tospend a little money, then if I were you, I'd give Andrew Herron (TotallyMaxed) a shout. His company sells a complete solution as well as a functional core....
