HD Files not playing
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:09:46 pm »
Hi All,
I've just done an install with the June 1 snapshot. I have an issue that has carried over from my last Beta2 install.

I have a number of 1080p files I can playback and several that I cannot. I've got some log files (via sudo tail -f /var/log/pluto/23_Xine_Player.log) which might reveal something.

Logfile from successful playback of 1080p movie
http://pastebin.com/BJbfLePb

And logifle from failed playback
http://pastebin.com/jQaGAD5B

Line 28 in 1st log vs line 59 in 2nd log seems to reveal the player is unable to identify the codec information...see below -
59    05      06/09/10 22:39:50.946           Read media A/V information: []/[] => []/[] <0xb6676b90>
28    05      06/09/10 22:43:43.136           Read media A/V information: [DTS 5.1]/[H.264/AVC (ffmpeg), 1920x1080] => [dts 5]/[16:9] <0xb6676b90>

Can anyone confirm this or see anything else that could be causing the issue? A quick inspection via VLC shows the media have all the same codec info. Both files play fine in VLC also.

Let me know if there is more detail needed...

Thanks

I had troubles on my 0810 core/hybrid with the latest nvidia drivers (I have integrated GF8200). Regardless of type of hardware acceleration on the MD page I didn't have a picture or sound with either Xine or mplayer during MKV/M2TS files playback. Also I had jerkings of video when watched TV using VDR. I removed all nvidia *195* package and installed them back using apt-get. Now Xine and VDR works fine, with mplayer I have only sound.

have any of you checked in trac? There is a ticket about several mkv.files not playing, because the matroska container had been updated and a lot of new movies only use this version.
As far as I know the issue has been put off until the next release for Version 10.04.

Thanks all,

Maverick, thanks for putting me onto that.

Also found this thread which I will try tonight - seems a simple but possibly easy way to get around current issuewith Xine.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

to douglas_fr: Maybe it was  concurrence of circumstances. I'm not sure.
to ssjjpp: in my case I don't have a picture when mplayer plays m2ts files. Only sound. It happens with the nvidia 195* drivers. I tried to install manually 190* and both Xine and mplayer works fine.
to maverick0815: that's really bad.

Thanks Nite-Man - before I go down this path, can you confirm for me that going to the older drivers meant that all mkv files play successfully? Were there any negative effects eg performance or quality? Is VDPAU support lost?

Oh, and how is it done?  ;D

Actually I didn't have movies with new MKV format I think. At least all of them are played well in 0710 using mplayer. In the 0810 they are played also well using Xine till the nvidia drivers were upgraded. Unfortunately my integrated card GF8200 doesn't support vdpau as I know. And old nvidia drivers offer vdpau support. Since 185* I guess.
