Any ideas? Used exactly the same installation procedure as with 810, which always worked well. Nothing appears to be out of the ordinary, Hauppage Nova-T-500 detected without issues seemingly, myth just doesn't find/insert any channels after the initial scan. Antenna feed is working.

The 1004 experience has been a pleasant one so far though! (apart from this)

Cheers,
Matt.

have you tried scanning for channels with scan from dvbutils package?
I'm having the same issue as far as I can tell, scanning for channels with scan or w_scan finds everything expected.
Yet Myth picks up nothing - I've tried deleting the cards and re-adding them but to no avail.
I've tried creating a channels.conf and importing that but that fails too.

You're talking about 0810 aren't you?

I've done the 1004 equivielant of what you've suggested, scanning for channels using scan from the dvbapps package, but unlike you, that doesn't even find anything! So just end up with a blank channels.conf.

Any other pointers anyone?

Cheers,
Matt.

purps, I'm on 1004 actually - but maybe got the package name wrong.
Does dmesg tell you anything about your card missing firmware or mismatched symbols?
if you increase the verbosity on scan do you get any more hints on why nothing is picked up?
Are your initial tuning files up to date?

I will have a look at doing those things when I get home. What do you mean by "initial tuning files"?

Are you using the Hauppauge Nova-T-500? I have read a few things about this card throwing up issues with 10.04; some to do with onboard amplifier, some to do with other options in /etc/modprobe.d, etc. Will have a play.

Cheers,
Matt.

It's threads like this that worry me http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1535821

I remember having a conversation with Andrew somewhere in this area a while back, and I could have sworn that he said something about only doing "cold" restarts, but that might have only been for an early 0810 alpha (but it was definitely for this card).

Also this might be relevant http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1294971

Cheers,
Matt.

I'm having the same issue with a Hauppauge Nova-S with VDR in 10.04. In 8.10 it was running fine...

have not figured out any solution jet

When I did my install on 1004 my nova he s2 was also shown as detected and seemed to be configured at first glance. However I found out that lnb was not connected...so i did that manually. Still no luck with any scan....found out, that the firmware was missing. After installing the none-free package, it worked like a charm

maverick,

did you add a note on the wiki about it?

Would this be relevant to the DVB-T version also, assuming it's a firmware issue?

Is it a case of simply putting the firmware file from the V4L site somewhere, just like the 0710 days? (if I've remembered correctly)

Never heard of LNB before, only the LNA, obviously two very different things (blocker and amplifier?) - same issue? I made a note on on the nova-t-500 wiki regarding the option for turning LNA on, will be more concise once we've got to the bottom of all this.

Cheers,
Matt.

I already installed the firmware-nonfree package, and after that the card showed up properly in dmesg...but still no scan results. I'll do a fresh install in the next days just to make shure it's reproducible.

I actually found it on the wiki here :

and mentioned it here too

So...where do you like me to mention it in the wiki?

Fixed it seems, will report back if I find instabilities.

dmesg and lsusb showed everything to be as it should.

I did two things to get it working; 1. forced LNA on, which has to be done in 810 as well, except the options file used to be "/etc/modprobe.d/options" - since ubuntu 9.04 it is "/etc/modprobe.d/options.conf" (file has to be created). 2. It seems the cards are once again suffering from the infamous "warm restart" issue, i.e. if you reset your core, you must do a "cold restart", or the tuners don't wake up.

The information is now in the wiki - is this something that needs a ticket?

Cheers,
Matt.

Quick update. Seems to be OK, TV has been in constant use. The setup DEFINITELY suffers from the cold restart problem, which is annoying if you forget to do it, but not an issue. It occured to me that when I move (next month hopefully) we'll be getting freesat, so I won't be using these sodding cards anyway.

Cheers,
Matt.
