mythtv .22
« on: November 21, 2009, 08:50:58 pm »
I took the plunge with a apt-get dist-upgrade today.
Fortunately I did a complete system-backup with partimage.
I got the new mythtv .22 installed and had to drop the mythconverg database.
After recompiling v4l I also got my tv-card running again, did the station scanning and everything else to get mythtv running.
So far it seemed nice, even on my MD, but its only running for a few seconds. Mostly I get something like this
Quote
video frame buffering failed too many times
at other times it seems, like the frontend cannot find the backend-server and asks if the IP has been setup correctly.
does anyone else has some experience with the new mythtv?

Yes it offer some great new 'under the hood' features and so early in the release cycle seems to work very well. There are some rough edges still to worked on and we are holding off on integrating into Dianemo/Cascade it until after Christmas for that reason.

All the best

Thanks for the input, guys.
But how they say:"no pain, no gain". Actually it turns out to be much more painless than I initially thought. When the first beta of 8.10 came out, the avenard repo had a pre-release of mythtv .22. In the meantime it has been officially released and I believe the Devs here had also put a lot of effort into things.
When I did the upgrade I expected to see a lot of errormessages about the mythconverg database, but there was nothing of the sort. Considering my previous experience with this, it went rather smoothly. The only reason why I asked about the abovementioned problem is, that I forgot the problem I had with the previous mythtv .21
I went back here: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=8971.0 tried it and it works!
So right now I can say, that if you upgrade, then you might have to recompile v4l and you might have to drop mythconverg, applying the workaround and mythtv .22 works.

Well the problems I was referring to too were not in anyway to do with LinuxMCE but were bugs or limitations in the MythTV 0.22 release. These are well documented in the MythTV mailing list. They are not deal stoppers and will get fixed...they are more annoyances than anything else. But they make using 0.22 a little challenging right now and so we decided to hold off until 0.22 had stabilised a little before integrating it into Cascade/Dianemo.

you're right, there are some issues...right now for example I cannot for whatever reason watch CNN, whenever I select it, mythv throws a tantrum and crashes frequently...if I leave it alone for a while and stay away from that station I can watch anything I like...I guess the news aren't so popular with that software :-)
