Setting up an 810 dedicated core.

Hi folks,

I'm in the process of installing my "production" core with 810. It is going to be a dedicated core (not a hybrid) and the ONLY function I may want on it's screen is the ability to kick off the ripping of a DVD.

With 710, you had the option of declaring your core to be dedicated, but that isn't there in 810. From other postings, I can see how to set the machine up so when it boots, I don't have an orbiter (I intend to use the machine, which is Waaaaaay over-speced, for other things as well) but rather a login eitrher to a text prompt (preferable) or the KDE GUI login.

My question is this, how much of the AVWizard do I need to run in order to get the core part of MCE set up? I am at the point where Sarah usually appears, but I can neither see nor hear her (no sound card, which I selected earlier and I non-supported graphics card. Not sure what it is, machine is an HP DL380). Have I gone far enough to bomb out of the wizard now and start booting MD's etc and then using the web admin? If not, what selections are the minimum needed to get it working.

We usually just configure UI1 on Cores that are going to be sat in a rack for example. I would suggest completing the Wizard and choose UI1 in the AVwizard...whether that works or not depends on how 'unsupported' your GPU is though ;-)

You could try to change the c_deviceType setting in the mce_wizard_data-double_nic.sh / mce_wizard_data-single._nic.sh, depending on your nic setup. Do this before you run the mce-install.sh

This is what I did. I used an installer from about two months ago, and it worked fine then.

Unfortunately, I've already run the install and am in AV Setup now. I did select UI1, I just wondered at waht point the wizard stops setting up the "core" part and starts on the "MD" part - allowing me to bomb out. Or is the entire wizard "MD" and, in fact, I have a functional core as soon as I reboot following install?

If needed, I can easily re-install now (IU haven't done anything important yet!!!) but obviously would rather not

Your assumption is correct, that once the install is completed you have a fully functional CORE.

The Wizard has two parts, once which Core based (House Setup) and one which is Media Director based (Media Director Setup).

I also always run a dedicated core and never use the wizard, I setup any directly attached core devices using the web admin panel.

I also edit /etc/pluto.conf and set AutostartMedia=0 which disables the Media Director on the core.
