Don't bother with UI2Alpha (there is no such thing as UI3, its UI1, UI2Masking, UI2Alpha), this won't work with your GPU.

If you are just booting the MD with a Live CD and using it for Kubuntu (ie not trying to use the 0810 version of LMCE) then, no, it will not effect your MD's image. Just reboot and you will be back to your MD

Thanks, no I guess I expressed myself wrongly, I do mean UI2Masking as this seems attainable in view of the EEE box experience.
Apparently it will take some more time.
