linuxmce, windows vista, media player 11 and fuppes ??
« on: April 07, 2009, 06:12:39 pm »
I've searched the web and various forums fairly vigorously to no avail, so question?

How do you integrate linuxmce fuppes and WMP11?  WMP sees both the mythtv and fuppes UPNP servers, but will not see any of the media in the fuppes one,  It will play video from the Mythtv UPNP server however.

I've tried turning off the Mythtv UPNP, running the fuppes with debugging turned on ???

According to Msoft, the WMP iin Vista is supposed to be able to see UPNP media servers.  Due to the lack of information on this on the net, I can assume either, it always works and I've got something weird wrong, or it's never worked and nobody cares

Thanks for any info..

just a guess here, but almost everytime I have networking issues with Vista it is a firewall/sharing center issue. I always just turn off the firewall and things start to work right again.

You need to go into the upnp server section in the web admin, go to Advanced > Configuration > UPNP Server and tell it to rebuild the database. Fuppes will be replaced at a later date with a better UPNP server.

Tried firewall, no joy, and as I say the MythTV UPNP works.  Had already rebuilt the DB (many times), no joy their either.  Initially the linuxmce install of fuppes did not have transcoding libs installed, so I installed them assuming that the reason that Window$ could not see the library was that the files were ogg.  That did'nt work, so I copied some wmv's to the directory too, and made sure the db was updated.  The windows Explorer shows the fuppes UPNP server in the Network window, Vista is setup to autmagically see and use media devices, but when I double click on the icon for the fuppes device it either shows just the stuff on the HD, or shows the MythTV list where I can browse my timeshifted video??

Thanks tho, for the responses..

I have the same problem, but since I only watch my media on LinuxMCE I never cared enough to look for the solution.

my experience with windows auto discovery services is that they are flakey at best and I just look for another solution. In my case, the media library is the folders with the media. I realize this is only anectdotal evidence, but I have been experimenting with upnp stuff for a while and microsoft tends to fail the most. Maybe use another upnp renderer? The windows client for xbmc is ok.

Just my 2cents.

Linuxmce - Where everyone is never wrong, but we are always behind xbmc in the media / ui department.
