mce and xp?
« on: March 15, 2009, 05:23:27 pm »
Ok as a potential new user I don't know if this has been asked.I have tried to search the forum for it.1)Can you have a xp PC act as a media director to access the core.2)I have ripped some movies already do I need to redo them with mce in order to view them. The rips are all vob files. This is what I would like to do.Have a Core then use my ps3 or xbox 360 or windows laptop, and the xp machine to access it,or do I scrap the whole plan and just stay within a windows environment.I'm not concerned with the home automation or security just yet so that can wait. Thanks for the help and keep up the good work!I may be switching to all Linux based pc's in the future and keep 1 windows rig for my games.

Hi Waifrelic33,

  1) No
  2) I would have to defer to a more experienced person as I'm not familiar with the vob format, I use avi's and the inherent dvd ripping utility on the MD which works great.

1) While there isn't a Windows implementation of the media director, note that you can netboot a windows machine as a media director as needed without affecting your existing installation.

2) You can use your existing rips.  I have a few vob rips that lmce picked up as dvds, you just need to make sure the directory structure is correct with VIDEO_TS containing all the necessary files.  http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Rip_a_CD/DVD_to_the_Core
