Screensaver pictures downloaded to folders in the past
« on: April 20, 2008, 09:20:16 pm »
I actually like the flickr pictures that randomly display as a screensaver. I just have a couple of questions on how the files are managed.

1) Do the pictures get downloaded and saved on a daily basis in the folders /home/flickr/2008/'month'/'day'? That's what I thought originally, but looking today, a folder from 5 days ago appears to have new images that were not there yesterday. I remember because yesterday I went to the Media - Pictures - flickr folder and deleted some of the pictures that I was getting sick of seeing.

2) Folders from last month - /home/flickr/2008/03/20 for example - no longer contain any jpg image files. The only format in there are *.jpg.tnj files.  Are these still being used for anything? If not, won't these take up a lot of disk space over time.

Hmmm... not sure about your point 1 above. Maybe you should Mantis that as a possible bug?

Regarding point 2... PhotoScreenSaver clears old pictures out so finding folders in that state is 'normal'. '.tnj' files are small but they should get cleared up too.

All the best

Thanks for the reply Andrew.

I'll try to accurately reproduce point 1 before I submit a bug.  I'm wondering if it's seen when I deleted one of the pictures.

So is my assumption correct that it downloads a certain number of images each day and store them in the flickr month/day directories?  Strange that the directory for the current day is not created yet.

I am also seeing this problem with 0710.  It's not a major issue, just a little annoying to try to find folder that get downloaded to remove, only to discover they are in a folder I already went through!  Here is a snippit of my Flickr.log:
