Display resolution
« on: January 29, 2009, 07:25:24 pm »
OK - this will probably seem like a very silly question.

In A/V wizard when selecting adapter (HDMI) resolution (1080P) and then Frequency (50...85Hz).  When selecting 60Hz, the fq that I thought my TV must operate at (Sharp Aquos LC46D64U) the a/v wizard comes back oversized (changing tv to dot for dot does not fix this).  For any other frequency the screen comes back full width with minimal change needed.

Does anyone know why this might be?

Thanks,

its called overscan, and it is something your TV is doing. You may be able to turn it off in its menus (would have thought dot for dot was the option, but perhaps not) you will need to do some searches on this site and others for overscan and see if there are any solutions listed. The Aquos rings a bell for this problem. Ideally you want it to stop doing it without having to manually edit modelines. Also, the mythtv modeline database is useful..
