It works while playing media as well. Not only the menu works, but I also can fast-forward/backward, change chapters. Stuff that you do with F6.

Can you detail exactly what you did for me again? Better yet, can you write a wiki article?

I followed exactly the Howto on the wiki for mapping F6 and F7 to the mouse. The mappings work as soon as I play back a video. It stops working after switching to the KDE-Desktop and reactivating the Orbiter. They work under KDE all the time though. Can you confirm this?

Unfortunately I can't at the moment as I'm stuck in dependency hell with the package system which means I cannot install anything at the moment. I have some leads to follow up on that front, so if I can resolve that I will then try this. In the meantime if would be a good idea to log it as a ticket in trac.
