New kernel, mce_usb2 remote recognised but not working
« on: November 05, 2008, 03:57:04 pm »
OK, I got a new kernel built (2.6.27.4) and installed, along with the latext nvidia drivers (177.80) and latest V4L-DVB drivers.

My DVB tuners seem MUCH more stable, and most LMCE things seem to work, will know more over the next few days.

/proc/dev/sys/rtc disappeared though which meant manually editing the mythtv-backend start script to get rid of where it tries to write to it. HPET (high precision timer) is supposed to create the rtc directory but it doesn't, though enabled in my kernel build.

Anyway, my MCE remote has stopped working.  I get the message box in the UI telling me that mce_usb2 is installed when I plug it in, and the MD has a device defined, but the remote has no effect.  Any ideas where to start troubleshooting?

I put in another entry here which talks about a slightly easier way to install a new kernel.  Search for "fakeroot" or "make-kpkg", should find it OK.  Will pretty it up later and put into the Wiki later.  The method I am using creates a new ".deb" package which you just install using dpkg -i.  It does a lot of the manual steps for you (yay!) like updating grub and installing the new bootimage.

here -> http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=6304.0

I did not recompile LIRC, good call.  Though would LMCE still have recognised it?  I did get the popup from LMCE saying it had found it and added a new device.

i dont know toms about how lmce uses devices, but it seems like it will recognized the device by the system bus,  but without working lirc cant use it?

That sounds like the case, and it makes sense, so off I go to try LIRC (well once I get a new masthead antenna installed so that by DVB-T tuners can receive TV signals properly).
