0.19 is out with lots of docs
« on: February 12, 2006, 10:59:59 am »
Hi,

0.19 just came out - it's already included in Pluto 0.36.

But there is also new site with a lot of useful documentation :

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/User_Manual:Daily_Use

I particularly like this one for daily use of Mythtv :

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/User_Manual:Daily_Use

it gives good description about mythtv features - in core and with plugins...

There are certainly some interesting plugins (mythweather, mythgallery - photo viewing app, mythphone - sip video phone, mythnews - rss reader, mythweb -great web recording management/streaming/configuration interface...) and I'd like to see them included in Pluto (mythgallery could solve lack of photo viewing support, mythphone video telephony, mythweb to get web interface(important when something goes wrong with frontend and easier to setup majority of tasks), etc...).

I'd like to hear opinions from Pluto community...

P.S.: there is recomendation to use Version: 1.0-7676 of binary NVidia drivers with mythtv - is this version included in Pluto or newer ?

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Rob.

hmm,

it seems nvidia driver is newer.
Code: [Select]
dcerouter_260:/usr$ dpkg -l '*nvidia*'
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name           Version        Description
+++-==============-==============-============================================
ii  nvidia-driver  1.0-8178       <insert up to 60 chars description>
ii  pluto-nvidia-v 2.0.0.36       <insert up to 60 chars description>
dcerouter_260:/usr$

Anyone with experience of mythtv & nvidia ?

Regards,

Rob.

Ok, put on your seatbelts. Next release will include a few structural changes that you won't see in the changelog (I didn't put the changelog tags for the automatic robot to put them in the changelog), but may break things (hopefully they won't). MythTV 0.19, nVidia packages built with the Debian package structure (thus the nvidia-driver package will be replaced by the nvidia-glx and nvidia-kernel-`uname -r` packages). This MythTV will have nVidia XvMC support (or so I hope, as I'm under pressure to make it work). The nVidia drivers also include the OpenGL support that the previous package didn't provide (the ATI one always had as ATI provides a "make deb" option in their installer)

Hi,

thanks for info. Can I put vote for inclusion of mythtv plugins ?

pros:
- mythgallery could become plutos picture viewing app
- mythnews is RSS reader
- mythweather - displays weather forecast in nice graphic screens
- mythphone - decent SIP video phone
- mythweb - really useful web interface for managing/configuration (I shedule all my recordings through it- cause OSD and infrared navigation is pretty constrained)
- all plugins could be run from custom buttons on main menu (Weather, News, Phone)

cons:
- a bit of additional work (not so much if mythtv is already custom compiled)
- needs testing

Nice features to use :
- mythnotify - you can put nice shaped totally configurable notifications on live tv or recording view screens of mythtv (like "someone is at the front door", visual version of speech announcements, incoming call, etc....)

Any opinions ?

I'm interested in this, cause I used some of those plugins for quite some times - so if I'm able to help, I'll be glad to...

Regards,

Rob.

for now we won't add new features on actual devel of pluto.
we need to finnish adding support and fixing all bugs possible with this implementation.
we want to release a stable version, hopefully this summer :), that will be our final v.2; then to start working again on a new UI, more features that we lack now, more hw support
