Sharp Aquos LC-42D64U

Hello (puts his asbestos suit on).

I have a Sharp Aquos LC-42D64U

It's identified as a aquos but different version and only comes up with 5 inputs instead of the 7 I have.

A thread on the forum (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5328.0) gives advice for changing the template via General Serial Devices.

My questions are:-

1)   Should I be changing the template or create a new one for this specific model ?

The reason I ask this, is that I don't know how compatible the codes etc. are between the models.  You would hope the manufacturer wouldn't waste resources recreating new codes, but who knows.

2)  If I need to create a new template, who do I contact to authorize/register a new template number so it doesn't conflict ?

Any advice or direction would be appreciated as this is my first attempt to add hardware change to the overall linuxmce system.

Use this tip from alx9r http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Alx9r%27s_Aquos_TV_Setup#Setting_TV_to_Respond_to_Power_On_Commands
it shows adding of the additional inputs as well.

I used it to setup my LC42D64U and it now works great. for all inputs ... and now powers on from rs232 as well.

Hi TK.

Thanks for the extra link and the IRC chat.

Due to family committements, I cannot work too many hours but will go over everything you have mentioned.

Although setting TV's up by hand, with help from the wiki, is an OK intermediate step, the whole presentation of linuxmce is to have hardware auto-config due to the created templates.  I think it would be good for me to try and learn how to do this, as once I have successfully completed one template, then that will encourage me to do more, which will result in a better experience for all the newbies with their TV's and equipment.

Time will tell I suppose.
