Feature Request - replace EIB part with linknx
« on: June 05, 2008, 09:35:58 am »
I would like to suggest a enhancment in one of the next releases, by replacing the actual EIB implementation with the existing open-source projekts EIBD, linknx and knxweb. The have better support for EIB devices, specialy for thoose with seperate addresses for write and read, or thermostats with splitted heating and cooling and are maintained, in opposite to the pluto-eib. In addtion EIBD allows the sharing of the expensive bcu devices.

more information about projects :

EIBD http://www.auto.tuwien.ac.at/~mkoegler/index.php/eibd
linknx http://linknx.sourceforge.net/
knxweb http://linknx.wiki.sourceforge.net/KnxWeb

we will need to literally write a new DCE device to handle this. It's not like we just duct tape it on. :-)

this is a good idea, and I do wish I was in europe, to help... ;)

Hi,

maybe I could suggest to try with GSD and Ruby first. Automation stuff is never so time critical, so GSD couldn't handle it....

There you have quite some nice examples of full blown home automation interfaces in Ruby (thanks to authors for contributing them)...

HTH;

Bulek.
Thanks in advance,
