Hey all I would like to install Linux MCE on the following platform:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Brisbane 2.3GHz 65W
ASUS M2A-VM HDMI AM2 AMD 690G
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 2 DDR2 800 Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ
A 400GB SATA II

I havent decided on a TV tuner card and/or sound card; I am open for suggestions on these componets.

I was wondering if I could get your opinion on the setup and any possible issues with the hardware. Ii am especially nervous as the onboard video is ATi and I know that ATi drivers aren't the most compatible with Linux.

I believe the ASUS M2A-VM has an integrated ATI Radeon X1250-based graphics? Unless I am out of date - I don't expect this will work very well. You'll probably want to get something with an Nvidia based GPU...

Jay Armstrong

Aye. For now, nvidia's cards seem to perform better ... or so I hear -- I just keep buying nvidia. Eventually, the recently-open-sourced ATI drivers will catch up and that will be the way to go.

OK, so you guys are suggesting that I get a nVidia graphics card. Not a problem.

What about the TV tuner card or sound card?
Would the onboard sound be good enough?

Hmmm... the ATI X1250 will work... but it needs some hand installation to make it so... the AVwizard does not correctly configure the ATI drive currently. See here http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers#ATI_Chipsets for more info on what to do
