MD Boot Up Problem
« on: February 17, 2008, 05:51:23 am »
Hey all,

Received my NEW MD today and got it hooked in and all. I set the device to PXE boot, and it's receiving an IP successfully and running through the normal boot up procedure. Heck it even detects my SBLIVE 24 External USB SoundCard (Got it because MD didn't have Optical Outputs on it, and I wanted DTS sound).

In any case, the mobo is a MSI CN700T, which is based on VIA. It's MINI-ITX form factor, which is why I liked it. I'm running 0710 Beta 2 on my core at the moment (haven't updated it yet). in any case... it gets all the way down to "Helper Script Started", and seems to just sit there. If I hit enter... I'm given the prompt to login.

Not really sure what to do from here, or what my problem is. Help Please?

OK below is the procedure we use to get UI1 + Unichrome working under 0704 on Via hardware...

You'll need to install the Unichrome or Openchrome drivers to get your MD to continue... its trying to start X and can't I would think. Just build either the Unichrome or Openchrome drivers (suggest you copy built drivers directory into /home/public/data so that you can easily reach them from any MD). With the driver of your choice cp'd into /home/public/data directory fire up a new console session at your partly installed MD (ALt + F2 or F3 for example...to get back to the first consoles session use Alt + F1 by the way) then cd into the /home/public/data/<your driver installer directory name here> and install the driver. Now switch back to the original console session with ALt + F1 and you should see that X has started and hopefully you have the AVwizard on screen... at least that is what you should see.

We have stopped our Via development effort for the time being so I have not tried compile either the Unichrome or Openchrome drivers under Kubuntu 0710 so I can't say how easy or complicated that might be... but if you can get a clean make of either of these then you should be ok ;-)

Hope the above gets you up and running on your new MD.

All the best
