Need help Starting out

Hey everybody!

~I am new to linux and while i have used suse for a bit i ended up killing the OS with a bad file install. This means I may need a little hand holding(don't worry i am cute;))~

I was recently told about LMCE and it intrigued me so I decided to download it and give it a shot. However to my surprise the night i chose to do the install the server was being moved so I couldn't find the install instructions. While I was able to get the OS to install (it did it all by itself) I keep getting this cycling effect to setup the box. It also locates my TV but cant access it to do anything. From what i have read i need to access the administrators web page (something like this) to install drivers and such but this is beyond me at the moment. (I have also lost the install instruction link, Can someone post it?)

Now on to my first important question. Does/has anyone got or know of the hauppage Wintv-1600 PCI card to work with LMCE? (I just bought it so if it doesn't work i will take it back) Also if they have gotten or know where to get the drivers to make the card work i would really appreciate it.

Back to the OS since i am stuck in this cycleing state (basically it keeps trying to run the intial setup) should i reformat and do a clean install?

My system is a Crapaq running a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2 gig ram and 120 gig sata drive. Its got a Built in Nvidea graphics card (yah i know am poor atm) The TV i am trying to power is a own with my pc is a Sharp LC42D64U. I Just want Over the air tv recording and watching abilities atm.

thanks,

Hello Freethought, welcome.

I'm not sure of that specific card, but http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Hardware should get you started..

You can find all kinds of information at wiki.linuxmce.org

Install instructions are accessable on the top of www.linuxmce.org

Please, read the install instructions.. they are important!

you may not need to install an OS, if you use the DVD, it will do it for you.

I say again, read the instructions. ;)

All the best!
