MythTV and PVR350 Setup
« on: October 10, 2005, 09:06:30 pm »
I recently downloaded and installed Pluto v2.0.0.30  MythTV does not seem to work with my capture card, Hauppage PVR350.  One of the Pluto reps said that IVTV was not working for some people on the latest kernel.  Perhaps someone could just verify the steps I took.  Also the version number on the firmware I downloaded is 2.6.10 while the kernel being used by Pluto is 2.6.13.  Would this make diffrence?

1. Ran the installation wizard online and specified my capture card as an IVTV capture card.

2. Installed Pluto from CD.

3. In the Pluto Admin website I went to "Advanced" --> "Add Software", selected "CORE" and filled in the following:
     Package name: ivtv-firmware-2.6.10-4
     Repository URL: http://www.geocities.com/download2kx01/
     Debian Repository: checked
     Repository Name: realextra main
  Then I pressed add software.

4. Restarted PC

5. Started the MythTV setup and when I select the capture card the video device setting remains blank.  According to the Pluto instruction this should be filled in automatically if everything worked.  Since my box is being installed in a diffrent location than the cable source I can't test if it is working I can only presume its not based on the instructions on Plutos website.  Am I correct in presuming it won't work?

In 2.0.0.30 we upgraded the kernel and a lot of stuff seems to have been missed. This includes the video drivers. Before .31 is released (it may take a little while) I may post the fixed driver packages online. Firmware may follow.

http://www.ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Firmware

The ivtv driver can be a bit picky about firmware version.  Recommend you use the firmware version that was favored at the time for YOUR VERSION of ivtv (ie. ivtv0.2 may not be the same as ivtv0.4)

The firmware is the programming for the card and talks to the ivtv module, as long as your ivtv module was compiled against the kernel you are currently using the kernel version does not affect the firmware.
