Reinstalled the nvidia drivers now got a problem
« on: November 19, 2007, 11:45:05 am »
Just reinstalled my nvidia drivers as for some reason it reverted back to default the ones.

Now after the dcerouter login i just get a black screen with a flashing cursor.

Tried pressing the numbers to change the resolution and input connection but no look.

Then tried holding shift down when it beeps, it doesn't run the AV Wizard though it just shows the same black screen with flashing cursor in the top right.

Then I tried to replace my xorg.conf with xorg.conf.backup but only got the same results.

I think I may just need to get the AVWizard to run but not 100% on how to force this.

That sound like a way to fix it?

Look in your /var/log/Xorg.0.log

and /var/log/Xorg.1.log (** this shows you any errors when the AVwizard was running)

You should get some indication of whats wrong by looking in these logs. Post the logs here if you need to.

I suspect that the AVWizard can't run either because X won't start.  Try restoring a backup of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, or delete it so that it can be regenerated, or make one by hand as described in: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers.

Tried restoring a backup of Xorg.conf and deleting it both no good still did the same.

Had a quick scan of the two log files but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. When i can ssh in I will do to copy and paste them onto here. At work at the moment so cant really fiddle that much with it unfortunatly.

Will try post the logs later on.

Cheers for the help in the mean time

Matt

@acematti,

I have experienced this problem under both LMCE and pluto.  The problem was caused by a module version mismatch, can't remember which module sorry.  The only way I managed to fix the problem was to uninstall all the nvidia packages using apt, then re-install the packages using apt.

When uninstalling the packages make sure you note down the names, so you can reinstall at a later stage.

Another thing you could try is downloading and installing the same version of Nvidia drivers that are shipped with LMCE as this should resolve any module mismatch errors.  MAke sure you reboot after installing.

Good luck NOS

To get the wizard to start you might have to do what I had to do. I got the information from here.
