Don't see "Play Disc" button to play DVDs
« on: November 03, 2007, 04:56:49 pm »
I just installed LinuxMCE 704, but I haven't been able to figure out how to play DVDs.
When I put a DVD on the tray, nothing happens. I also don't see the "Play Disc" button on the screen.

Does anyone know how to go about fixing this issue?

Thanks

How did you install?
Normally they play automatically, you do nothing after inserting the disk. If the DVDCSS isn't installed you get an error.
there is a play button on the media-manage drives screen. Make sure the drive is there, it may not be recognized by LMCE, just under Kubuntu.

I installed with the DVD ( the one that installs Kubuntu and linuxmce all in one shot ). That is the irony too, that I installed using the same DVD drive that now does not want to show up.

When I go the "Manage Drives" all four squares are empty ( black boxes ). There is a play button, but the DVD does not play. It says that it "cannot play this media". " that perhaps this entertainment area is not able to play it". Regardless of the message I don't think it refers to the DVD player, I think it just cannot find a drive.

Thanks

Ok I can finally play DVDs, but I don't see the "Play Disc" button; which I don't care much about, so that's ok.

The problem was that I had a CD/RW, and a DVD/RW on the system. It took the CD/rw as the default, but it wouldn't pick up the DVD/RW. My solution was to remove the CD/RW, and just leave the DVD/RW.

If someone knows how to add the "Play Disc" button, let me know.

Thanks

Again, as was mentioned earlier, look under Manage Drives.. you'll see the Play button, next to your drive, and what's inserted in it.... You'll also see buttons for Rip disk, and Eject.

This was done in order to accomodate multiple media directors inside the house, so that you can play any disc inside the house, no matter which drive, or jukebox it may be in, and what media director it may be attached to.
