Multiple Cores
« on: August 20, 2007, 10:57:02 pm »
Is it possible to have two cores that are interconnected? I would like to set up one to do just the security since i am running out of PCI cards and also wouldnt want it to bog down anything on the core i have now (CPU or HD space).

I don't think that you can really have two cores. You would need to have only only DCERouter running, which is the main part of the core.
However, a MediaDirector can act as the interface for security devices and other things. This may do what you require. Just make sure the software devices that you require reside under the MD rather than the core in the device tree.

There was talk with the pluto system to have multi-cores, ie one at home and one in your holiday home. Dont think that it every got to a working state,
You could setup another core, and add all the devices to it, then stop the dcrouter running on that machine and point it to the ip address of your otehr core, sisnce normally uses 127.0.0.1 to point to the dcrouter.
I might be worth trying using vmware as a test to see if its possible. I've got a quirte week this week, so will see if i can set up a proof of concept.

Ok. Well i will keep the media director thing in mind. Let me know what you come up with on the multiple cores thing sp00nhead. I was pretty sure i had seen something about hooking up separate houses like that on the pluto website but never could find much about how or anything. Thanks to both of you for the help.
