12.04 & 14.04 apt-get nvidia-current (Resolved)
« on: June 05, 2014, 09:33:40 pm »
Hi,

Basically neither version is happy doing this.  (Then don't do it!).

12.04 will crash on reboot with the screen showing...

  rmmod /lib/modules/3.2.0-60-generic/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-codec-idt.ko

  rmmod /lib/modules/3.2.0-60-generic/kernel/sound/sound/soundcore.ko

I ran recovery mode and appended rw init=/bin/bash to the end of the linux line so I could get around that aggrevating enter root password - for maintenance or Control-D to continue and the root password always fails.

Anyway, I checked the xorg.conf in 12.04 and the nouveau driver was still listed.  I tried changing to nvidia but no joy, LMCE does reboot but hangs at oribter generation - I think.

14.04 booted with an error message, then rebooted and stalled @ orbiter generation, again, I think.

This is the log activity...

This is from 14.04 but it appears exactly like 12.04 messgaes.

14.04 logs complains about module license 'NVIDIA" taints kernel.  Signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel.

Cheers.

I did an apt-update/upgrade and noticed some nvidia changes.

apt-cache policy nvidia-current now shows 304.116-0ubuntu0.0.1 installed for 12.04 and  304.117-0ubuntu1 for 14.04.

Cheers.
