installation failed
« on: April 13, 2007, 01:24:25 am »
Hi,

I also have the installation failing. Error log is:

Code: [Select]
Err file: ./ libsdl1.2debian-pluto-oss 1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007+pluto-2 File not found
Failed to fetch file:/usr/pluto/deb-cache/./libsdl1.2debian-pluto-oss_1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007+pluto-2_i386.deb  File not found
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?
ERROR : Failed to install and configure the base software

I have looked at the downloaded iso file and some of the file names inside the iso appear to be truncated. In the iso I downloaded the files in error were:

libsdl1.2debian-pluto-oss_1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007+pluto-2_i386.de

(the final "b" in "deb" missing)

lirc-modules-2.6.17-11-generic_0.8.0-5ubuntu1+2.6.17.1-11.35_i38

(final characters missing)

I could not create the install CD from this iso. Therefore I extracted the packages and burned the files directly onto the CD. This seemed to work except for these file names being corrupted.

Where is the error occurring? Is the original iso corrupt? I checked the md5sum and it is OK. I've also downloaded the iso from 2 different mirrors.

Thanks,
Andrew

I have managed to fix this problem. Seems that either the ISO is corrupted (but the MD5SUM is OK!) or  I can't burn the ISO for some other reason. I therefore extracted the ISO files to my PC.
However one of the file names (in topic above it was the ibsdl1.2debian-pluto-oss_1.2.7+1.2.8cvs20041007+pluto-2_i386.de). Since I had already burned the CD I simply renamed the file to the correct file name in the pluto cache folder. Then ran the install again and it worked!! So, temporary fix for others with install problems is to check the file names and correct them BEFORE burning the install CD.

Now onto the more interesting challenges of the rest of the install :-)
