...I think.

Don't quote me, but I think you should probably finish the LMCE install in its entirety before you start playing with drivers.

Cheers,
Matt.

Ha ha I think those are very wise words!!

I was trying something different because I wasn't getting anywhere by loading the drivers afterwards, however LinuxMCE wouldn't load by doing it this way round.  It got stuck loading @ "entering samba password in smbapswd" and looped there forever.  So I've started again (again) with a fresh install from the 23388 snapshot.

One thing I noticed is that even thought the internet connection is working, there are loads of failures when installing linuxmce after Kubuntu has installed.  It starts at:
pl.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main/packages

and continues on for a couple of screens full of lines.  It seems that the url is not found [IP: 91.189.88.37 80]

Anyway I'm doing another fresh install to try again!

Ha ha I'll have worn the DVD out before I get this system running! :D

So I think I'm finally getting somewhere, I had sound through the headphone socket on my machine, I had the video playing ok in the alpha-blending setting, and it was all going well, I'm now having major issues with the network, I had internet connection going really well, but then it all went away!  I'm currently following some other threads on here trying to sort that out.

Its currently booting up again so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for all the help, and if you get bored, you can always check out my other thread, I can't get my WinTV card going at all!  ;)

Cheers.

When this happens to me (very rare), I go into an orbiter, go to "Advanced" (the LMCE logo if using UI1), find "Network Settings", wait a sec for it to come up with the relevant info, and then click "DHCP", see if that helps.

Thanks for the info, I finally got it all working by following another thread about setting the eth0 and eth1 the correct way round.  What was happing was that every time I rebooted, I would have to swap to the other network port??? Weird hey?  It was like the reboot was a switch to swap them over!?  Anyway its going alright now, I had assummed that the onboard nic would be eth0, and the pcie one would be eth1.  That turned out to be the wrong assumption, but at least I know now.  The other good news is that now the orbiter loads up without any messages about some devices not finished loading...blah, blah.  Also I got the mythtv button to appear under "Advanced - Computing" which has never happened before.  (Read another thread about that too)  I now have sound, video, and network connection, there's no stopping me now!!  I'm about to try playing a dvd so watch this space for more frustration. lol.

Thanks for all the help.

Installing libdvdcss2 is necessary on each MD that you wish to play DVDs on.

sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

Cheers,
Matt.
