Advice on new install
« on: October 18, 2010, 06:33:13 am »
I am almost at the point of installing my system and wanted some advice. I have a gigabit switch, a couple of IP cameras (POE that run using a POE injector), and I may have a couple of Cisco 7970 phones also. My question; should I connect everything to the switch when I do a fresh install on my Hybrid Core, or should I install OS on "naked" system (nothing plugged in) and then start adding things one by one?
Thanks for all the help and advice, I've been on here for a while reading up as much as I can and I'm looking forward to finally starting.

Install your core/hybrid first, play with it. After things are working like you want it, add a phone, let it detect, follow screen, repeat.

I don't even connect the switch/internal network cable when I install, I just have the external internet cable connected. Probably not necessary to take that approach, but it has always worked for me.

EDIT: Wrote "internal" when I meant "internet", sorry for any confusion.

That's what I meant, sorry, have edited my post. Although I always leave the second NIC in (just not connected to internal network).
