Are you booting off the DVD or you trying to install within an existing kubuntu 8.10 installation ?

Do you want to keep anything currently on the hard drive ?

I remember seeing that its better to do a straight kubuntu 8.1 (i386) install, then run the web install scripts.

This at least gives a chance to test drivers and get the latest kernel.
