ATI X1250 and 8.10 Beta

Hi,

Anyone try install the DVD_beta with an ATI video card?
I read this wiki page .. http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers .. but I have some problem, This page is still valid for the 8.10 beta?

when i try .. apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx

I have this error:

ATI graphics adapters are not a supported configuration, so you are really on your own here.
I *highly* suggest either getting a cheap nvidia card, or giving up on UI2 with that card.
If you do insist on following this path of pain, you will be better off doing research on ubuntu dedicated resources.

100% agreed. ATI is only worth the effort if your interest is in getting 'under the hood' and figuring out how to make these cards work better. But in reality its the ATi driver that are lacking and so that is really not going to change unless ATI build better drivers...

Go with a 9400GT card (its probably the best price/performance choice right now) and you'll immediately get compatibility, hardware acceleration in MythTV...and soon in xine/mplayer for DVD/video playback from inside the Orbiter.

thanks for the reply, I was interested to run this ATI card because I bought last year, a barbone with this ASUS video card because it says in wiki that is compatible and what's more it is excellent as an MD ... I think it is a bit misleading.

I think if you really can not do anything then it is better to change these pages.

The error you're getting is not in english, so I can't read it... It looks like you have a package conflict with nvidia drivers.  Remove the nvidia drivers with:
sudo apt-get purge nvidia-glx-190

Remember that these pages are contributed by users on a volunteer basis... it's not something that has been put there to "trick" you into doing something.  There is no "tech support department" in charge of writing and maintaining these documents.  Welcome to the wonderful world of open source software.

Also, most of the hardware pages are for 0710 release or earlier.  A lot has changed since then.  Most effort has been focused on developing and testing the new code, so the documentation is a little outdated right now.

Unfortunately, ATI's Linux graphics drivers are not too good in my experience.  There's nothing we can do about it except to provide as much information about getting things running as we can.  Generally, this is not a simple procedure.  Search the forums and you'll see lots about it.

Bottom line - sorry it didn't work for you; please update the page as you see fit, that's how a wiki works.
