No there is no LinuxMCE template for a Sky, Sky+ or Sky+HD box currently. You can add them inside MythTV though as if you have an analog capture device configured to hook them upto.

All the best

hmm.

I really

really

really wish people would put the time into figuring out how to make device templates for these types of devices!

I am getting very tired of "just manually configure it in mythtv" damn it, Andrew, this isn't VDR,

I mean, really... is it somehow falling onto my responsibility by default to ensure that devices are handled PROPERLY by the system so that manual configuration isn't needed?

Well the problem is Thom that adding these types of devices to LinuxMCE is a totally broken process...its actually really difficult and is demonstrably so...thats why no one is doing it! In the case of this type of device you have a bad 'mashup' of MythTV and LinuxMCE and its the LinuxMCE part that causes people headaches. If we actually want people to get involved in adding these types of devices to LinuxMCE then we better come up with a much better way to do so...otherwise very few people will try...and even fewer will succeed.

Can you tell me what's actually broken about it? I've been able to make device templates for devices like tuner cards, and I would gladly do it if people shipped me hardware and paid for my time to do so.

We're not talking about a tuner card here... we are talking about a Sky sat box which will only work here in the UK/Europe. See here for a great example of why no one is creating any templates for adding this type of device... http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Use_a_satellite/cable_box_with_the_PVR. People arrive a this page and then quickly give up. Why dont you document the process you would go through so that others can get involved more easily?

I have also been frustrated in making a template for the Australian Foxtel IQ2 pace STB. I have successfully learn't all of the IR codes and tested them both in the device template and from an MD going into advanced.

The issue I am having is that none of the buttons will control the  box except for the info button. ( have tried a LiveTV and DVD device). The strange thing is the volume controls do contol the amplifier as expected and my projector turns on.

I am not connecting the STB to my Core as a capture device, but still want it as a device to control. (specially because it is located in another room). Will happily submit the templates back once i get it all working so any pointers on how to get the IR codes to map to the buttons would be appreciated.
