How to name cover images in Music folders ?
« on: September 03, 2009, 03:08:55 pm »
Hi,

can LinuxMCE import/use images which are placed in the folder of an Album ?

Or do they have to be inserted in every mp3 file ?

At the moment I have front.jpg in every folder, but they are not used. Before importing them all I would like to know if there is a filename that is used.

If not can you recommend a good program for inserting the covers in the MP3's. Don't care if Windows of Linux. Could also be a linux script ...

cover.jpg
It is better to use an app to put the artwork actually in the id3 tag. i have used mediamonkey in windows for this (free download).

i was under the impression that just placing a .jpg in the folder with the music files was enough, it worked for me anyways. Make sure you go to media files sync and path to the folder and click update and the image should appear.

flac requires "cover.jpg", as the used taglib from KDE does not support flac image meta tags yet. Updatemedia checks for cover.jpg, too.

hari - this is for 0810 only isn't it? 0710 doesn't do this... for 0710 you have to add a tag to the folder so that you end up with foldername.id3 inside the folder.... correct?

Hi,

thanks for your tips :)

I now tried renaming to cover.jpg, but nothing happens. Also not "Resynchronize" or "Update".
If I use " Edit attributes for all files in directory" to add the cover and then use update then the cover is added to the .mp3 file. I was hoping on some easier way like
- put cover.jpg in folder and LinuxMCE does the rest
meaning finds the cover adds it to all .mp3 in the database and then adds it to the .mp3 files.

Can mediamonkey do this automtically like  :
1. find cover.jpg in folder
2. add it to all mp3 files.

maybe using scripting ?

viking - separately from the option to Edit attributes for all files in directory, you can actually edit the attributes of the directory itself, as if it were a file as well. Instead of clicking on the directory in the left hand pane to display its contents then clicking on the file in the right hand pane to edit its attributes .... you can navigate up the directory structure, and when you see the directory itself listed in the _right hand pane_ click on it there instead of clicking on it in the left hand pane. Now you will see the attributes of the directory in the right hand pane instead of the directory's contents. You can now set cover art for the directory.

Hi Colin,

thanks, then it is a little bit easyer. But with 500 albums that would be a lot of work ;)
So I am looking for an automatic solution.

But just found out that the update media dies on indexing this video that i wanted to watch and saved in the video dir :
http://mirror.linux.org.au/pub/linux.conf.au/2007/video/talks/29.ogg
(It's about Linux HA)

I will try again and see if cover.jpg is used.

Just found Cover tagger - maybe that is a good solution :

Anyone tried this one ?
