I base setup is

core//masterbed// 2.1ghz amd x2 2gb 160sata 32" sharp 720p
md//livingroom// 2ghz amd 64 1gb (diskless)
orbit//livingroom// old desktop on xp

looking at a ipaq wifi hx2400 for a master control for house..
.....at least for masterbed for the future

I wanted to setup for 5.1 sound (RCA) in masterbed
&
5.1 sound (RCA) livingroom

I wanted to control the A/V equipment via  IR  threw X10 knowing that some of
the equipment will have simular codes i do not want to relay commands to
one reciever or tv and in turn affecting a reciever/tv that i do not to control at the time.

I was thinking of (2) usb/IR transcievers one for the core and md or md's (for controling that rooms equipment as well as otherrooms

Something that would translate IR to X10 commands  (mini controller x10 maby -or Powermids)

(my thought on the later is if I get a home audio stereo like a Sony STG-197 i could control threw x10)
>Power toggle
>volume
>input (prob a input feed from a MD or the core)
>am/fm
>a/b zone

If any have tried and failed or had success in what I hope to try to do make a post

Thank you

I dont understand, why are you wanting to control the audio receiver using X10? most people just hook a usb-uirt up to each md that needs ir devices controlled.

some of the general home audio equipment might not have a md near it

just wondering if I have to do it that way

I think you would be better off either extending a usb-uirt into that room from an existing md (there are converters to use cat5 for this), or use a wireless ir extender to retransmit the ir to the other room (places like radio shack have these).

I am using a GlobalCache GC-100 to control a receiver, which is not near the MD. Works perfect.
If I helped you, feel free to buy me a coffee: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=2VKASZLTJH7ES

Thanks guys,  I got a bit of reading in and both methods look like they would work.

The gc-100 method looks like something I will try when I get the funds for that setup.
As well if I move I will have a better area for a core only setup in the ultility room....
.....plz let me move  LOL

But...for now I will get a couple usb transceivers for my hybrid and Md's

As for the the home stereo system I might run a cheap old puter that will netboot
just to run that threw a usb transceiver..

Ill let you all know how it goes for me  :)

I am so ready for bluetooth / headset support  :)

I got a couple questions...

(1) Can the UIRT at a md control other md's via those md's UIRT...like in a house wide media command..?
( wanted to play a music playlist from all md's)

(2) On the GC-100 is there a way to tie the gc-100 into a IR network to control md's from the gc unit?

I am so used to having a house hold ir network  hard to get away from the old ways  lol
