No Sound on Intel 82801DB chip

The internal audio for my eServer which I am setting up as a dedicated core is based on an Intel 82801DB-ICH4 chip. I have tried somethings mentioned in earlier posts for similar chips, such as disabling audio options in BIOS, checking the ALSA drivers and so on, but nothing seems to work. There is no sound coming out of it through the normal output. Even Amarok on the KDE desktop gives out no sound.

Does anyone have an idea how to make it work?

Can anyone help me out on this? Thanks!

If its a dedicated core, why are you concerned about sound?

The server has a built in speaker and it would be useful to have it working. Also, I am currently testing it out as a hybrid so I would like to have the sound working at this stage.

hmm, theoretically if you can find an ALSA driver on the manufacturer's web site that indicates it is compatible with kernel version 2.6.22-14 then it should all work. Confirm that first otherwise you are just going to be chasing your tail. Once that is done, then you can look into settings like those in alsamixer, muting, and IEC958 (if you are using SPDIF), etc
