Hi,

I have a HYBRID linuxMCE machine with two network cards. One external on the internet and one internal.

I want to copy mp3 files from another computer on the intrenal lan. The other computer is running windows XP.

When open a window and enter \\dcerouter in the address bar I am prompted for a username and password. When I enter the username and password I use from the admin site it is not accepcted.

I have confirmed that the computer is on the internal network and that I can use exactly the same username and password to access the admins site.
(See attached screen shot which shows the admin site and the failing log in attempt.)

I have not changed any of the samba configuration in anyway.
Does anyone know what I can try to resolve this?

Hello, again.

This is very strange, as yes, the file shares use the username and password as gathered from the web admin.

What version of LinuxMCE did you install?

I have the same set-up with a windows vista on the internal lan. I connect via the ip address 192.168.80.1 as dcerouter doesn't work for me. You could try that.

Only other thing is the format of the username in your graphic. Mine is JUST the name (in your case Robert) without the dcerouter\.

Hope this helps.

When I type in the username I type just robert. I press enter then the box disapears and instantly reappears with the dcerouter bit in

Techstyle

It is case sensitive and needs to be whatever you told Sarah your name was.  this is your username and password

try robert and robert (lower case both) and linuxmce and linuxmce

Also, did you put your XP PC into the LINUXMCE workgroup and reboot it?

Hi,
using username Robert password Robert has worked.
This is strange as it is NOT what I use for LinuxMCE admin. LinuxMCE admin user username Robert password *****
(Not *'s obviously)

I have tested the admin again. User name Robert password Robert does not work
username Robert password ***** does

This is werid. It dosn't matter to me as I am able to do what I need now but maybe a mistake has been made in smb.conf or something simular to cause this.

Thanks everyone for your help
